Job Summary

The Communications Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing the LWF Kenya & Somalia communications strategy, including managing the organization's website and social media presence, producing multimedia content, and coordinating with media outlets to ensure accurate coverage of LWF's work. The Communications Officer will also support fundraising efforts by developing fundraising materials and contributing to grant proposals. The Communications Officer will work closely with communications officers based in the field locations and at the headquarters in Geneva.

The Communications Officer position is based in Nairobi and reports the Country Representative. Duration of the contract is 1 year with possibility of extension.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop and implement country program communications strategy in line with the organizations global guidelines
  2. Manage LWF Kenya & Somalia website and social media presence, ensuring content is up-to-date and engaging
  3. Produce multimedia content, including photos and videos, that showcase LWF’s work in Kenya and Somalia
  4. Develop human interest stories or case studies on the work of LWF in Kenya and Somalia
  5. Coordinate with media outlets to ensure accurate coverage of LWF Kenya's work
  6. Develop fundraising materials and contribute to grant proposals
  7. Provide support to program staff on communications-related matters
  8. Ensure that all communication products adhere to LWF's branding and communications guidelines and donors’ visibility guidelines and requirements
  9. Monitor and report on the impact of LWF Kenya's communications efforts
  10. Develop brochures, bulletins, newsletters and various reports for various audiences

Qualifications and Skills

  1. At least Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or related field
  2. Minimum of 3 years of experience in communications, preferably in the humanitarian or development sector
  3. Excellent writing and editing skills in English
  4. Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality multimedia content, including photos and videos
  5. Experience managing social media accounts and website content
  6. Knowledge of and experience working with media outlets
  7. Excellent IT skills
  8. Experience developing fundraising materials and contributing to grant proposals
  9. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  10. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
