DanChurchAid (DCA) Kenya is working with refugees and local communities in Turkana, West Pokot, Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nyandarua, Nakuru, Busia and Siaya counties to enhance peace, livelihoods, and resilience. Overall responsibilities of the job.

The intern will provide technical support to DCA field staff implementing livelihoods and youth empowerment project/s that enhance financial inclusion in Turkana West Sub- County. The intern works in close consultation with other respective interns, project assistants, project officers and area manager in Turkana West Sub-County.

He/she is expected to have a proactive accompanying role with other DCA project interns, assistants, officers, programme officers and managers in Turkana West to promote financial inclusion/VSLA, cash-based interventions, livelihoods and youth empowerment projects including blended learning approach to business training, employability skills, and online jobs training and support.

Project implementation and technical support.

  • Support the DCA field staff in the day-to-day implementation of Livelihoods and youth empowerment actions that enhance access to financial services and products through training, supervision, mentorship, linkages, and accompaniment.
  • Participate in the implementation of blended learning approaches in entrepreneurship, job seeking skills, online jobs, and linkages support in DCA projects in Turkana West.
  • Support innovation in the sector of financial inclusion and cash-based interventions including VSLA and the relevant digitization at field level in close consultations with the project officers and area managers
  • Support other livelihoods interventions including mobilization and business skills training to beneficiaries of agricultural activities
  • Take up training, mentorship and facilitative role towards the incentive staff and project beneficiaries to ensure successful implementation of financial inclusion and youth empowerment project activities.

Project Management Support

  • Participate in day-to-day monitoring and data management actions including filing of project data, routine data collection, analysis and updating of relevant project data.
  • Support the activities of relevant incentive staff including reviewing their action plans, weekly reports, and data collection.
  • Prepare weekly/monthly action plans and activities progress reports to the project officers and area manager
  • Participate and contribute to project reporting, documentation, and learning
  • Undertake any other duties as may be assigned by the direct supervisor.

Qualifications:

A degree in Social Work/Social Sciences/psychology/ Community Development/Rural Development or another related field preferred.

  • Ideally, the intern will have knowledge and interest in financial inclusion with a gender inclusion approach.
  • Excellent attention to detail and good administrative and organizational skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills, ability to work flexibly and meet tight deadlines.

Required Experience & Competencies:

  • Good understanding of community development work, financial inclusion or/and entrepreneurship skills promotion preferably within the agricultural value chain.
  • Familiarity with digital learning platforms, teaching/facilitating adult learners is an added advantage.
  • Self-driven and results-oriented in challenging rural working environments.
  • Strong teamwork and people skills with ability to create trust, respect and interact with beneficiaries of all backgrounds and diversity.

Good facilitation skills:

  • Concrete knowledge of computer skills. Knowledge of open-source tools such as ODK collect, KoBo Toolbox or CommCare platforms. Kobo/ CommCare data entry will be an added advantage.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality and respect for clients is always essential.
  • Ability to lead, train, supervise, and motivate other staff and local partners in their respective tasks in a professional, respectful, and supportive manner.
  • Positive and professional attitude, able to organize, maintain composure and prioritize work under pressure, work for longer hours when necessary and be able to coordinate multiple tasks with adherence to detail.
  • Team player
  • Fluent in English and Swahili.
