Overall Objective
The main aim of this internship is to equip intern with necessary technical and management skills on food security, livelihoods and climate change programming in humanitarian and development setting. The Intern is expected to support in data collection, analysis of reports and develop technical briefs for the Food Security & Livelihoods Sector.

Specific Objectives
The intern is expected to:

  • Understand the humanitarian and development contexts of the Horn and Eastern Africa region.
  • Understand the core humanitarian principles and standards
  • Understand the organizational goals, mission and vision and ensure all documents developed are in alignment with the organizational mandate.
  • Review of food security, livelihoods and climate change reports within the Horn and Eastern Africa region
  • Support in the review of countries’ assessment reports and FSL work plans
  • Work closely with country colleagues and partners to build effective relationships through listening and dialogue
  • Work with Country and regional teams to develop 2-3 pages technical briefs or case studies.
  • Share appropriate information and knowledge with colleagues and contribute positively to achievement of team goals
  • Support in organizing and participation in FSL workshops/ meetings or any other relevant training organized by the region.
  • Consistently work professionally and ethically to make your contribution to the FSL sector, and encourage others to achieve programme goals.
  • Exercise judgement and determination, and show initiative and resourcefulness to address emerging issues within the Food security, Livelihoods and Resilience Sector.

Requirements

Proffessional Qualification

  • Master’s degree in Agricultural & Applied Economics, Agricultural Education, Agri-business Management, Climate Change/Environmental Management, development studies or Social Studies Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience gained during industrial attachment in an International or local NGO.
  • Demonstrated skills in producing high-quality technical reports on a tight deadline.
  • Technical knowledge on Climate, Agricultural and food systems is a plus.
  • Ability to sustain interpersonal and professional relationships with internal colleagues and partners
  • Excellent planning and resource management skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively present complex ideas to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to multitask with ease and grace, balancing and adapting to frequently changing priorities.
  • Flexibility to adapt to any subsequent changes in the terms of reference.
  • Work independently and the ability to motivate, inspire and influence others positively to achieve goals
  • Communicate with and demonstrate accountability to organization and partners through consultation, liaison, feedback, reporting and transparent use of resources
