Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background, the interns' assigned office as well as the internship period.

  • Under the direct supervision of the Somalia Programme, Head of Country Programme/SHSO and the direct supervision of the Programme Administrative Officer leading the Programme Management Unit (PMU), ROAF the intern will:
  • Support in the general administrative tasks and coordinate as appropriate with other UN-Habitat staff
  • and departments.
  • Support Project financial management and reporting by reviewing and consolidating field reports in areas of direct and indirect implementation.
  • Support in updating and monitoring of PMU trackers e.g., procurement, travel, and cash advance,
  • Support with travel logistics arrangements e.g., flight bookings, car hire, visa applications and accommodation booking.
  • Support in compilation and updating of inventory of non-expendable items (for the Nairobi and Somalia Offices).
  • Support in the organization of meetings, trainings and conferences held in Nairobi including liaison with participants, conducting site visits, and assisting with writing minutes.
  • Support in maintaining orderly files on on-going projects and project/programme.

Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.

Education

Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
  • Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office).
  • Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Preferred areas of studies:

  • Business Administration, Finance, Management, or any related field of study.

Work Experience

  • No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
  • Experience in general administrative tasks in a busy office preferably an international organization is required.
  • Experience in organization of meetings, trainings and conferences is desirable.
