Job Objective

IRC is seeking a Somali speaking, Julisha.Info moderator to be based in Hagadera, Dadaab under the direct supervision of the Senior Editorial Officer in Hagadera. The Moderator will connect with Julisha.Info on a regular basis, responding to comments, messages, and questions. The moderator will support IRC in strengthening Risk Communication and Community Engagement activities at the Dadaab Refugee Camp  and host community to enhance uptake of COVID-19 vaccine, dispel myths and misconceptions regarding the vaccines and reduce hesitancy among the target vulnerable groups.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Implementation

  • Engage Julisha.Info users in conversations online based on the guidelines provided in the moderators’ handbook
  • Reply to messages and comments received via Julisha.Info website, WhatsApp and Facebook page, media channels with the help of Signpost project team and moderation guidelines.
  • Collaborate with Senior Editorial Officers, service mapping officer, Health, Reproductive Health/Community Health Program, and protection teams to develop thorough, vetted, well-researched answers
  • Provide weekly reports on representative and noteworthy comments (including responses to posts, trends in conversation and information gaps).
  • Support integration of online and offline COVID-19 vaccination mass awareness campaign activities such as local radio, community outreach and dialogue sessions.
  • Contribute to collection of rumors and misinformation on COVID-19
  • Analyze Julisha.info users’ rumours and myths around Covid-19 vaccination the affected populations to feed into content creation and messaging.
  • Keep up to date with all the new information put out on an ongoing basis and attend regular trainings as required.
  • Support in the translation and development of user-generated digital content to Somali language
  • Follow protocol to escalate any communication from vulnerable cases to Protection team

Qualifications

  • Experience working with refugees, asylum seekers, displaced persons, refugee hosting communities
  • At least one year of experience working with social media engagement and campaigns through platforms such as Facebook
  • Experience in interpretation and translation services. Ability to translate into English and/or Swahili and vice versa  
  • Ability to act with discretion, integrity, and diplomacy
  • An understanding of the power and importance of accurate information and the ability to exercise strong judgement in ensuring all answers are accurate.
  • High emotional intelligence
  • Diploma or advanced relevant technical (e.g., Translation, interpretation, media, journalism, communication) qualifications
  • Professional fluency in spoken and written Somali

  • Great attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as, an overall ability to be clear and concise in all communications
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; proven ability to prioritize and deliver on time
  • Strong analytic problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a dynamic, cross-functional team
  • Collaboration through tools such as Teams, Box, and Zendesk.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)
  • Social media savvy- demonstrate ability to create, engage, use and understanding of the value of social media applications.
