The promulgation of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, introduced the devolved system of Government which resulted to the formation of the 47 Counties across the Country, Kakamega County being among them. Kakamega County is located in the western region of the country with an area of 3,051.3 square kilometers and an estimated population of 2,079,669 and density of 682. Administratively, it is divided into twelve sub counties, sixty wards, one hundred and eighty seven Village Units and four hundred Community Administrative Areas. Politically, it comprises of twelve constituencies and sixty wards. The climate in this region is very conducive for many activities including crop and animal production. County Vision A wealthy and vibrant county offering high quality services to its residents County Mission To improve the welfare of the people of Kakamega county through formulation and implementation of all-inclusive multi-sectoral policies.

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, an officer must:

  • Have served in the grade of Senior Public Communications Officer or in a comparable and relevant position in the Public Service or private sector for a minimum period of three (3) years;
  • Be in possession of a Bachelors degree in any of the following disciplines: Mass Communication, Communication Studies, Journalism, Public Relations, Social Sciences or any other approved equivalent qualifications from a recognized University/Institution;
  • have a post graduate diploma in any of the following disciplines, in the case of holders of general social science degrees: mass Communication, Communication Studies, Public Relations, Journalism, International Relations or its equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized institution/University;
  • Have a clear understanding of the working of the media and the socio-political environment in Kenya;
  • Possess good oral and written communication skills in both English and Kiswahili;
  • Possess advanced computer application skills;
  • attended a management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks; and
  • Have demonstrated professional and managerial competence as reflected in work performance and results.
