COMPETENCY CRITERIA
Qualifications, Training & Knowledge

  • MSc/MPhil in a relevant discipline in health and social sciences with at least Upper second/ 2.1 Honours in their MSc/MPhil degree (e.g. Public Health, Social sciences).
  • Understanding of health issues, services and systems in Low and Middle-Income countries (LMICs)
  • Training at Masters level in health systems research methods, including critical appraisal  and application of theoretical frameworks to drive effective change

Experience

  • Experience in successful delivery of mixed methods health systems research studies. 
  • Experience with theory based evaluations will be an added advantage.
  • Experience carrying our health systems research in Kenya.
  • Experienced and competent in advanced analysis of qualitative data e.g. NVivo, Atlas.ti, etc. Experience in quantitative analysis will be an added advantage. 
  • Experienced and competent in delivery of implementation science driven projects in the health sector
  • Experience in publishing in journals in the area of health systems research
  • Experience in project supervision, including training and leading teams of research assistants

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate at all levels in English and Swahili
  • Demonstrable attention to detail and accuracy, leading to high quality control of research data and results
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to achieve research objectives independent of day to day supervision
  • Ability to work as an integral, productive and co-operative member of a multidisciplinary team in a flexible and competent manner 
  • Excellent financial management skills, with the ability to manage the project within allocated budgets, as well as plan and forecast budgets and activities
  • Excellent people management skills
  • Excellent communication skills suitable for the management of, and liaisonwith, amulti-disciplinary, multi-cultural and multinational team
  • Ability to perform role in a manner that is diplomatic yet firm, decisive and
  • Flexible approach to work, with a willingness to engage in activities outside ofdirect skillset
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate the ability to be able to leadothers
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships with people at all levels and across cultures
