The Technical Manager (Resettlement and Complementary Pathways) provides comprehensive technical support to the UNHCR Collaboration Project (UNCP), mainly in Resettlement, but also in Complementary Pathways and Child Protection. The position will work closely with the Deployment Program Coordinator in Nairobi, and the Associate Director, Deployment Program, in Boston.
Requires flexible work hours and periodic international travel (resettlement missions), sometimes on short notice.

Core responsibilities:

  • Plan and conduct technical trainings for new Experts and Trainees, particularly in Resettlement, prior to deployment to UNHCR Duty Stations;
  • Provide Resettlement  technical support, mentoring and coaching to Experts while on deployment;
  • Assess training needs of the deployment program, and, design and implement trainings to strengthen the capacity of newly-hired Experts, and current Experts;
  • Participate in the recruitment process, including being a regular member of the interview panel;
  • Conduct trainings on interviewing and counseling skills, including age-appropriate, gender-sensitive and trauma informed interview techniques;
  • Conduct reviews of resettlement casework and provide feedback to caseworkers/resettlement officers after reviews with a view to improve and strengthen the quality of referrals; 
  • Regularly assess the quality and impact of the trainings through Experts’ feedback, surveys,  internal reviews and adapt accordingly to improve and strengthen the program; 
  • Act as the focal person for resettlement technical expertise in the Deployment Program. When needed, support the coordinators in reviewing and confirming TORs and other activities related to resettlement; 
  • Liaise with logistics and admin team in the coordination of Nairobi based Experts’ orientations and trainings;
  • Occasionally conduct missions to UNHCR duty stations for training support and casework support when needed;
  • Develop tracking tools and reporting forms to provide feedback and data based on the tools and approaches for which training was provide;. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline including International Development, Law, Social Sciences from a recognized institution;
  • Prior experience in refugee resettlement, preferably with UNHCR experience;
  • Experience planning and facilitating trainings, mentoring and coaching;
  • Excellent communication  skills;
  • Ability to network and engage with various partners;
  • A high degree of cultural sensitivity and ability to adjust to change;
  • Self-motivated and able to work with a high degree of autonomy;
  • Ability to travel internationally on missions, mainly Resettlement, sometimes on short notice.
