Main Duties and Responsibilities

Planning: Developing field implementation plans in collaboration with the technical advisors.

Mapping of sites:

• Identification of Microforest establishment sites in collaboration with Key Stakeholders (schools, corporates, local government, farmers, etc)
• Assessment of the site conditions for the establishment of a Microforest.
• Secure approvals from identified sites, ensuring their commitment to nurturing the Microforests and Agroforestry, and establish planting dates.

Logistics and Procurement

• Oversee seamless procurement and timely delivery of all essential inputs, following the required procurement procedures.
• Coordinate land preparation, ensuring sites are primed for planting, fostering robust growth.
• Training site owners on the maintenance and care of the Microforests and Agroforestry trees.
• Organise and facilitate learning visits to Microforest and Agroforestry sites for key stakeholders.

Routine Monitoring and Community Engagement

• Implement rigorous monitoring protocols across all Microforest sites, ensuring a staggering 85% survival rate.
• Champion community education initiatives, empowering individuals to grasp the intrinsic value of Microforests and fostering a deep sense of responsibility towards their care and cultivation.
• Develop a comprehensive mapping system, cataloging all Microforest sites where seedlings have been planted.

Progress Narrative Reporting

• Generate detailed progress reports encompassing expenses, Microforests cultivated, trees grown, next steps, and challenges faced.
• Prepare and present, weekly, monthly, and quarterly progress reports to the immediate supervisor and other key stakeholders.

The position

Scope and Purpose

The overall purpose of the role is to provide day-to-day administrative and operational support to the programme team in Coast Region.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Support the programme team with administration duties including compiling and making copies of accounting and liquidation documents from training activities.
• Support the programme team in sorting and organising materials for training activities and field activities.
• Maintain all project documentation and research /respond to inquiries relative to project guidelines for contracted and assigned work.
• Support in maintaining an efficient filling system for both manual and online documents.
• Assist the project team in planning and organizing activities and events.
• Support the team in digitising attendance and payment sheets and other participant financial records.

The position

Based in Mombasa, the driver will support the delivery of a high-quality programmes across the Coast Region. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing professional driving, transportation and other logistical support across the region. Key responsibilities will include:

• To ensure that all vehicle trips are duly authorized, recorded in the vehicle logbook provided and signed for by the supervisor:
• Fully responsible for the official driving of the allocated vehicle/s in the assigned areas of operations.
• To ensure that the vehicle does not carry unauthorized persons without prior consent from the supervisor and/or the management team.
• To ensure that the vehicle has adequate fuel, is clean and well maintained at all times.
• To ensure that the vehicle tool kit is at all times in the vehicle with all the necessary tools intact.
• To coordinate schedule service of the office vehicle with the procurement and administration team.
• Provide logistical support to facilitate field activities across the areas designated.
• Always drive carefully and ensure safety of passenger/s, other road users and the assigned vehicle.
• Report any incident that involves injury, damage to any passenger, pedestrian or third-party immediately.
• Identify vehicle problems and malfunctions, including, performing routine and non- routine check-up and maintenance.

Qualifications and skills:

• KCSE Certificate
• At least 10 years prior experience in providing organizational and/or executive transportation/driving.
• Valid Driver’s License and Certificate of Good Conduct.
• Thorough knowledge of traffic laws and traffic patterns, especially in Kenya.

The position

• To develop, implement, and manage a robust resource mobilisation strategy, aligning with the AKF regional and global strategy and best practices, AKF East Africa is looking for a dynamic thought leader, with a flexible mindset, and agility in executing iterative, highly participative, and consultative processes involving multi-stakeholders. The Partnerships Director will be a key interface with all AKF regional partners, including donors, government, implementing partners, civil society organisations, private companies, and AKDN agencies.

Key responsibilities include:

Securing funding, brokering new relationships, and strengthening existing ones with bilateral, multilateral, foundations, and corporate donors

• Pipeline development, management, and tracking: build and track a pipeline of funding opportunities, and manage them from early opportunities, through to signing of agreements and project initiation.
• Concept and proposal development: coordinate, facilitate, and lead the development process, review, and quality assurance of concept notes and full proposals for funding opportunities.
• Contracting and negotiations: coordinate and lead processes of contracting and negotiation, engaging relevant stakeholders, in a timely and efficient way.

Building strategic partnerships

• Donor landscaping and analysis: research, scan, and source relevant information regarding new donors and funding opportunities to identify potential funding matches and gather donor intelligence.
• Donor engagement and positioning: engage with new and existing donors and partners to identify new funding opportunities and consistently following up scanning for competitive funding opportunities. Develop positioning materials to enable effective donor engagement.
• Building strategic partnerships: work with AKF Regional CEO, country teams, AKDN agencies, and GPT to identify, build, and support strategic partnerships.

Ensuring first-class grant management:

• Donor relationship management: interface with donors and communicating on a regular basis about the implementation of on-going grants to ensure solid relationships.
• Contractual amendments and adaptations: coordinate contractual amendments, changes, and project adaptations, engage with donors in a pro-active and diplomatic way, and flag potential changes in advance to ensure smooth project implementation.

Influencing development and communicating practical lessons and result:

• Building awareness and strengthening stakeholder relationships: engage with the communications lead to identify opportunities for promoting AKF and AKDN’s work by supporting the development of content, convening and participating at events, positioning AKF as a ‘thought leader’ in development.
• Disseminating Insights: Disseminate lessons learned and achievements, ensuring that practical results are communicated effectively, deepening relationships with key partners and donors, and reinforcing AKF's leadership in the development field.

Provide supervision and people management to the partnerships team

Purpose of the role

• AKF Kenya’s HR Manager will drive the strategic HR agenda and ensure that HR practices and processes are efficient, up to date and satisfactory to both employees and organisation.
• The HR Manager will manage and oversee the work of Kenya’s HR team for the Mombasa region.

Key responsibilities

• HR Strategy and organizational culture: develop an HR Strategy and ensure that AKF Kenya is resourced to deliver on its strategic objectives; ensure that all aspects of the HR function promote an organisational culture of collaboration, teamwork, transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness. Knowledge, Education and Experience required

• Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP) qualifications or Higher Diploma in Human Resource Management from a recognized institution will be an advantage.
• 7 to 10 years’ experience in a generalist human resource management role and/or as an HR business partner role, including experience in the development of HR strategy, HR policy development, recruitment, performance management and appraisals, culture, learning and development, compensation and benefits, staff engagement and exit processes.

The position

Position Summary

As part of the AKF Kenya Coast Team in Mombasa, reporting to the Coast Region Programme Manager, the Gender Coordinator will be responsible for implementing activities and interventions to advance gender equity, provide technical support to the broader AKF Coast Region Team and AKDN sister agencies to ensure gender equity is mainstreamed across all education and civil society activities, review documents and materials to ensure these are gender sensitive, and ensure gender integration across all aspects of the project cycle.

Roles and Responsibilities
The specific roles and responsibilities of the Gender Coordinator will include:

• Lead the design of AKF gender related activities in the Coast Region as directed by project designs and the Gender Equality Strategy (GES).
• Assume an active role in supporting integration of gender into education and civil society programme activities and, where required, lead in aspects of these activities explicitly designed to advance gender equity.
• Ensure the effective implementation of the GES and associated action plans in the Coast Region and ensure these are compliant and contributing to the national policy frameworks.
• Ensure the AKF gender policies are relevant and aligned to the country.
• Provide technical support to the Coast Region Team to enable the integration of the GES and actions into all aspects of AKF’s education and civil society programming and project cycles (design, budgeting, recruitment, etc.)
• Identify capacity gaps and support needs of the Coast Region Team to inform the design and delivery of a strategic internal capacity development process. Ensure this is aligned and contributing to existing internal gender mainstreaming efforts.
• Review education and civil society programme documents to ensure all materials developed and used are gender sensitive and actively contributing to promoting gender equity.
• Develop positive and close working relationships with partner civil society organisations (CSO), government (as well as through technical working groups), AKF Regional teams and AKDN education sister agencies.
• Contribute to the CSO organisational and Government capacity assessment processes to ensure these adequately and effectively assess and plan for the integration of gender equality across these institutions.
• Provide technical support on the implementation of gender equality capacity development plans with CSO and government as part of their broader institutional capacity development plans.
• Collaborate with AKDN education sister agencies to provide technical support to improve the gender responsiveness of their professional development courses and materials.
• Synthesis gender data analysis to incorporate learnings into the broader Coast Region programme review meetings and processes. Develop recommendations and follow-up on agreed actions.
• Ensure gender learning is effectively integrated and communicated in all relevant AKF learning events.
• Lead the effective and timely implementation of gender assessments and AKF Gender Scorecard.
• Prepare AKF colleagues to effectively communicate AKF’s GES, progress, impact, and learning. Represent AKF as requested and required.
• Lead on reviewing communication materials to ensure gender equality and AKF/AKDN’s learnings are effectively captured.

Purpose of the position

AKF is seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic, and a fast learner individual to ensure data is effectively collected and used to improve quality of programming and influence for AKF education programming. The Assistant will support in ensuring data quality, conducting real-time data analysis, routine program monitoring and program data management. S/he will ensure that data is used by teams to improve programme implementation as well as supporting teachers and educational leaders to improve their understanding on the use of data to drive pedagogical and education system improvements.

Duties and Responsibilities.

• Work closely with the AKF education team to manage real-time data collection, data entry, analysis, manage program data and provide feedback to key partners.
• Work closely with the MERL and Program Team to build on the institutional learning agenda.
• Provide school-based and/or site-based support to enable teachers, school leaders and partner staff to effectively collect, analyse, and use data to improve pedagogical practice and schools.
• Support internal professional development of staff to enable effective utilisation of AKF data platforms to be implemented across all AKF education programmes.
• Integrate new knowledge into programme implementation for programming.
• Propose, develop and/or adapt data maintenance software and resources for use.
• Engage key partners on data needs to ensure effective collection and management of data.
• Work closely with the MERL team to continuously support the M&E functions for Education Improvement Program (EIP) and other core thematic areas.

Key qualifications and experience

• Relevant undergraduate qualification including, Statistics, Economics, Social studies, Computer Science, Demography, Geography, or M&E
• Ability to design Data Collection Tools, Sampling Methods and Quantitative/Qualitative Data Analysis is required.
• 2 years practical experience in similar field
• Knowledge of online and offline, open-source data collection tools and approaches and or database environment and/or project management software.
• Experience of working in ICT enabled data management systems is an added advantage.

The position

AKF is seeking an experienced Regional Gender Advisor to provide technical expertise, leadership and guidance for the Foundations for Education and Empowerment (F4EE) in Africa, a partnership program co-funded by Global Affairs Canada and Aga Khan Foundation. The program has three components: Foundations for Learning (F4L), Advancing Gender Equality through Civil Society (AGECS) and Advancing Canadian Champions for Development (ACCD). The Regional Gender Advisor will provide active support to F4L and AGECS components as well as strengthen the regional program portfolio, and advance AKF’s gender equality agenda at the institutional level diversity and inclusion goals. This Position will be based in Nairobi.   

Responsibilities 

The Regional Gender Advisor will ensure integration of gender equality in all aspects of F4EE program implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and learning. The Regional Gender Advisor will achieve this through providing technical inputs, technical oversight, and capacity building. The Regional Gender Advisor will support all relevant F4EE project staff and all implementing partners to ensure the program meets or exceeds the intended impact on gender equality and responds to donor and AKF requirements. 

 
The Regional Gender Advisor will provide strategic guidance and technical support to the Country Gender Coordinators and support them in the implementation of gender equality strategies and activities at the country level. 
 
The Regional Gender Advisor will: 

• Provide overall direction on gender equality targeted and integrated interventions for the project across F4L and AGECS components and countries. 
• Lead and provide oversight to gender analyses and assessments, and provide technical support to gender equality focused research, monitoring and evaluation. 
• Contribute to the program implementation plans, taking a lead role on the integration of gender equality in F4L and AGECS. 
• Assess gender mainstreaming and gender equality focused programming capacity needs amongst F4EE implementing partners.
• Facilitate the ongoing review and engagement by key partners on the implementation of the project gender equality strategies and programming interventions.
• Provide technical support to ensure the F4L strategies and programming are gender responsive and lead to positive gender equality outcomes for all.  
• Provide technical support to the AGECS sub-projects during, implementation, and evaluation. 
• Contribute to the delivery of the Women’s Leadership Academy, in partnership with Aga Khan University in Nairobi, including supporting the selection of candidates for the program.
• In close collaboration with MERL Team, distill gender equality related lessons learned from program implementation and ensure these are documented.
• Promote the culture of sharing lessons learning and networking on gender equality.
• Provide guidance and technical support to the F4EE and AGECS Teams to conduct evidence-based policy dialogue on gender equality and women’s empowerment. 
• Build relationships and maintain coordinated communications with AKF country, regional and global teams, donor unit in Canada and AKDN implementing agencies and other local partners. 
• Liaise with international, national, and local partners and stakeholders on gender equality issues related to F4EE and AGECS. 

The requirements

Education:

• Advanced university degree in international development, social sciences especially gender studies, and/or other relevant disciplines. Additional educational background in education/early childhood development is an asset.

Experience:

• Minimum of eight years of experience in sectoral gender equality and gender transformative programming and implementation in governance, civil society, education, and early childhood development programs (including significant experience in capacity building on gender mainstreaming). 
• Knowledge of gender equality issues and effective interventions, particularly in relation to education, early childhood development, civil society, and women’s rights organizations. 
• At least five years’ field experience in developing countries, preferably in Eastern or Southern Africa. 
• Specialized experience on gender equality and women’s empowerment in the regional context and demonstrated experience in building the capacity of project staff to integrate gender across their work. 
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate multi-country and/or multi-agency teams and assignments in a collaborative manner, remotely across digital platforms. 
• Experience conducting qualitative and/or quantitative research and knowledge of research methods, gender sensitive and ethical approaches. 
• Demonstrated capacity to respect and safeguard vulnerable populations. 
• Be able to travel to F4EE countries.

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Regional ICT Officer will provide critical support in maintaining and managing the organization’s information technology resources and strategies by supervising the staff responsible for operating and supporting the ICT systems and researching and implementing technological strategic solutions. Collaborating with business departments to align their ICT systems to their requirements and manage the systems to ensure they are constantly available to users.

• Implementation and Administration of the company's Wide Area Network (WAN) and various Internet technologies like VPN etc.
• Design, development, and implementation of ICT policies in the region. This includes but not limited to Security, e-Waste management, data protection etc.
• Planning, implementation, and administration of integrated unified communications in the region. This includes Audio, Video and Data
• Effective use of Office365, IP based PBX and Audio/Video conferencing systems
• Develop, administer, and conduct a formalised training programme for users on office applications (Office 365 – Mail, MS Office, Collaboration, Intranet etc.).
• Oversee troubleshoot, systems backups, archiving, and disaster recovery and provides expert support when necessary.
• Work with management to help implement Internal Systems.
• Designing and implementation of security solutions optimized to meet AKF needs.
• Oversee all help desk activities at the regional level.
• Respond to escalated help desk issues.
• Interact with users on all levels to help resolve IT-related issues and provide answers in a timely manner.
• Build and maintain vendor relationships and manage the purchase of hardware and software products.
• Manage the purchasing of all software, hardware, and other IT supplies at the regional level.
• Ensure that company ICT assets are maintained responsibly.
• Maintain, support and train on the regional applications; Microsoft Office 365 suite of applications – Mail, Teams, and office wide collaboration.
• Provide technical support on ERP, HR Systems, and other operational ICT systems in the region.
• Manage and undertake research and analysis to inform the Foundation’s ICT strategy and to advise on emerging technologies and trends, especially in Hardware, Software and Application solutions, which can benefit the Foundation.
• Initiate and implement improvements in all areas of IT responsibility.
• Serve as main point of contact on all IT-related matters for the region.
• Respond/act on upper-management direction.
• Identify and provides standards for gathering information for use in trend analysis and reports information to company management.
• In conjunction with RCFO and the Finance Dept., setting, agreeing, and monitoring regional ICT budgets.
• Consult with Geneva ICT on email creation for new staff, creation of regional mailing groups, creation of Teams sites and other global ICT functions allocated to the regional office.

The requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum BSc. In Computer Science/ICT with at least 5 years’ experience along with relevant professional certifications listed below. MSc. In a related ICT field will be an added advantage.
• At least MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) or MCITP (Microsoft Certified IT Professional), certifications in Security, Internetworking. Certification and/or on job training on an ERP System or Financial Information System (FIS).
• Ability to work under pressure with multiple tasks, demands, and deadlines with a positive and constructive attitude under minimal supervision.
• Strong networking and people skills with a collaborative approach to working.
