Job Highlight:

• Reporting to the Deputy Regional Director, you will engage daily with WRI Africa’s DRD, the Africa Executive Team, the Africa Regional Leadership, Africa staff and high-level officials across the continent, giving you insight into WRI Africa’s portfolio of programmatic work and engagement. You will report directly to the DRD. You will be responsible for overall coordination of the DRD’s daily activities. This will include day to day management of projects, communications, prioritizing scheduling, presentations, publications, and publicity. It will also involve coordinating the meetings and communication across several governance, leadership, and management units chaired by the DRD

What will you do:
Administrative Support (40%):

• Organize and manage a high-paced and demanding business diary, scheduling and arranging meetings, and regularly updating the DRD to cover urgent incoming requests
• Manage a fast-flowing email inbox, bringing urgent issues and those requiring action to the attention of the DRD
• Oversee the preparation, checking, and editing of communication, correspondence, and relevant documents
• Manage meeting, event, or email follow up, helping the DRD to record, organize, and prioritize action items
• Organize and prepare for business travel, including bookings, pre-travel paperwork and other requirements (e.g., medical testing or vaccinations) and creating detailed itineraries
• Process travel and expense claims as per institutional policy.
• Help with special administrative projects as assigned. This may include data gathering, fact-checking, record keeping, convening partners or staff members, to assist in decision-making
• Develop workplans and timelines with key milestones as well as basic budget tracking for special projects
• Manage special administrative project close-outs including after-action reviews and lessons learned

Coordination Support (30%):

• Coordinate regular meetings of the DRD's direct reports, supporting on agenda setting, note taking, documentation of action items, and follow ups
• Coordinate regular meetings chaired by the DRD, including meetings of the Africa Executive, the Africa Regional Leadership, the Country Representatives, and other Senior Management bodies
• Coordinate scheduling with Global Teams and with Governance Bodies on behalf of the DRD
• Support the DRD in senior Africa and Global meetings through agenda setting, detailed note taking, synthesizing actions and agreements, and pro-actively ensuring that requisite actions are taken
• Work with other Development & Engagement specialists to coordinate DRD’s participation in and preparation for external meetings, such as donor meetings, partner meetings, government engagements or other events
• Manage coordination of regular key institutional workflows and processes involving the DRD, such as: flexible funding allocations, committee meetings, proposal development processes, large proposal reviews, partnership agreement review, and others
• Liaise with the Communications & Engagement team and related WRI Africa programs to coordinate DRD activity at COP28, Africa Climate Week, Africa Climate Summit, and other diplomatic events

Strategic Support (30%):

• Applying in-depth professional knowledge and expertise to support the DRD in institutional strategic planning activities and decision-making
• Support the DRD in coordinating and overseeing large, often cross-functional and organization-wide projects such as strategy retreats and strategy review
• Support the DRD in convening annual strategy retreats and leadership retreats, including support on agenda setting, coordination, and materials preparation
• Work with the DRD, Regional Leadership, and Country Senior Management Teams to facilitate regular review and revision of regional and country strategies, including the solicitation of internal and external feedback
• Support the Africa Executive Leadership in the institution-wide annual planning and annual reporting exercises, communicating trends and patterns in data to assist in decision-making

What will you need:

• Education: You have completed a bachelor’s degree in management, development studies, or any other relevant discipline
• Experience: You have a minimum 6 years of full-time relevant work experience in project management, including budgeting, and project planning, preferably in a non-profit international development setting

Job Highlight:

• As the Urban Nature-Based Solutions Associate, you will primarily support the Africa Climate Resilient Cities program in Kenya. You will focus on coordinating the implementation of a 5-year Resilient and Equitable Cities program, the 3-year Green-Gray Infrastructure (GGI) Accelerator initiative and other city engagement work underway in Kenya. You will work with the Resilience African Cities Lead and the Environmental Finance Lead, in addition to city stakeholders (including the City County of Nairobi and the Nairobi Rivers Commission), to scope NBS opportunities technically will lead to investment and implementation in Nairobi. You will also lead in stakeholder’s management and partner’s engagements related to urban climate-resilience in Kenya.
• You will report to the Resilience African Cities Lead.

What will you do:
Relationship management, diplomacy, strategic planning and delivery for climate-resilience work in Kenyan cities (70%):

• Liaise with the Nairobi City County Government, Nairobi Rivers Commission, and other relevant city and municipal governments, government ministries and agencies, private sector and local actors to advance WRI Africa’s climate resilient cities work in Kenya.
• Organize and participate in consultations and workshops with key stakeholders for co-design and creation of projects to ensure outcomes meet local needs
• Attend stakeholder meetings, present the project on behalf of WRI at various in city events like focus groups meetings, assessment workshops, visioning workshops, action plan launch event
• Collaborate with the African climate resilient cities team to design and implement network exchange programs between cities that support peer to peer learning on common challenges identified in cities
• Manage the partnerships with local partners for implementing activities in Kenyan cities
• Work with the African climate resilient cities team and the local partners to support securing commitments for the action plans from cities’ stakeholders and leadership and identify priority climate resilience actions in cities

• Lead in the development of large-scale grants and funding proposals to unlock additional resources for NBS projects and partners, and WRI for Kenya

Communications (5%):

• Support content development for WRI communication materials, including blogs, newsletters, and project pitches
• Prepare presentations and written and graphic content for presentations and reports
• Coordinate with the head of cities program to strategically promote and elevate city champions in collaboration with WRI’s communications and engagement lead to support messaging for the city work.

What will you need:

• Experience: You have 7+ years of full-time relevant work experience in urban planning, natural resource management, or developing NBS projects for climate resilience in cities

Job Highlight:

• Reporting to the Senior Communications Manager for Africa, you will support the Africa Food program and the Food and Land Use Coalition Kenya platform. You will design and implement communications and engagement strategies, lead media relations, and manage communication support for events. You will curate communications products to elevate people-centered stories and messages for various channels, such as websites, social media, blogs, and publications. You will work with food program team and partners in priority countries in Africa to develop communication products and messaging to promote project activities, create awareness, share lessons learned and increase the overall visibility of project activities. You will work in collaboration with other communications professionals across the institute on joint efforts to promote WRI’s mission and values.

What will you do:
Communications and Engagement (60%):

• Develop and implement a communications and engagement plan for the Food Program in Africa, including the FOLU Kenya country platform
• Creatively translate technical and scientific content into products that are understood and used by a wide range of audience including farmers
• Coordinate and help develop audience-specific knowledge products
• Coordinate and help develop effective outreach material including high-quality presentations, publications, newsletters, blogs, photographs, videos, testimonials, webinars, social media, etc.

Job Highlight:

• As the GGI Accelerator Associate, you will play a critical role in leading and coordinating Green-Gray Infrastructure Accelerator activities across the 11 selected cities in 7 countries. You will be an anchor coordinator for the GGI Accelerator, helping to plan, execute, and track activities associated with the GGI Accelerator to ensure high quality delivery of activities and timely reporting to donors and investors. You will help design and prepare city-specific funding/financing and policy landscape assessments, support content creation for a webinar and workshop series to increase awareness and buy-in for NBS projects in the region, and coordinate regional and city networking meetings with investors, donors, government officials, and other NBS champions. What will you do:
Program Management and Research (85%):

• Plan and execute GGI Accelerator activities by coordinating with WRI staff and partners across the 11 selected cities
• Coordinate with ACCR colleagues to collect, create, and curate content for a webinar and workshop series that showcases lessons learned, policy and project successes, and gender, social equity, and inclusion processes to increase awareness for NBS project development. These webinars and workshops will be tailored to enable peer-to-peer learning opportunities between cities across the region
• Work with the Senior Environmental Finance Associate to design city-focused funding/financing and policy assessments to support tailored investment frameworks for NBS projects
• Orchestrate annual meetings with regional network of investors and donors and support city leads on coordinating local investor/funding working groups
• Support the Senior Environmental Finance Associate to coordinate with partners, including investors, donors, development and private sector banks, and funders
• Conduct outreach and communications including authoring or co-authoring reports and articles, and presenting at meetings and conferences
• Lead GGI Accelerator donor reporting requirements and contribute to WRI’s monitoring, evaluation, and learning frameworks

Reporting to Climate Program Communications Director, you will provide communication leadership and guidance for projects aimed at advancing bold climate action by countries around the world including through the UN climate negotiations. Your work will involve advancing two major communications campaigns in 2024: urging countries to submit ambitious Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and encouraging countries to coalesce around a new global climate goal at the COP29 climate summit that meets the needs of developing nations. You will also develop and execute a communications strategy for the Allied for Climate Transformation by 2025 (ACT2025) consortium which aims to ensure that voices from climate-vulnerable countries are heard and mobilized in climate negotiations. Working with our team of climate experts, you will plan and execute ambitious, comprehensive communication strategies to influence national government policy decisions, use WRI publication launches and campaigns to reach key audiences, and determine how to use external moments to advance our climate objectives. Responsibilities include overseeing messaging, event planning, social media coordination, media relations, and other outreach activities. You will coordinate and lead on high-level events with global leaders, and collaborate with colleagues at leading environmental organizations and UN agencies. About the Program: 

P4G - Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 - contributes to green and inclusive growth in low- and middle-income countries by helping early-stage climate businesses become investment ready and supporting national climate platform connections in food, water, and energy systems. Hosted by World Resources Institute and funded by Denmark, the Netherlands, and the Republic of Korea, P4G partner countries include Colombia, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Kenya, South Africa and Vietnam. P4G provides grants and technical assistance to early-stage climate businesses within a broader partnership to improve their investor readiness. All partnerships are aligned to national priorities as defined in the NDCs and coordinated by each of P4G’s nine government led P4G National Platforms. The partnerships and the National Platforms engage together on sector specific policy and regulatory changes to enable business growth. P4G captures and mobilizes knowledge around these public-private pathways to increase the flow of global climate finance to local climate businesses.

Job Highlight:

Reporting to the Senior Communications Manager, WRI Africa, with dotted reporting line to WRI Africa’s Energy Access Lead and WRI’s Lead for Energy Access Explorer. You will contribute to the delivery of the “Energy Access for Equitable Development (EA4ED)” and the Energy Transition pillars. It will help develop and execute a comprehensive communication and engagement strategy for the EA4ED pillar’s work, including supporting one of WRI’s flagship data initiatives - the Energy Access Explorer, as well as a strategy for amplifying and positioning the program’s work on Productive Use of Renewable Energy. You will be supported by a global team including WRI colleagues in Africa, India, and Washington DC. You will also work with partners around the world to contribute to the acceleration of Energy Access for Equitable Development, and energy transition goals.

What you will do:

Communications (40%):

• Develop and implement a communications plan for WRI Africa’s Energy Access for Equitable Development work, as well as for the Energy Transition work
• Coordinate and support the development of effective outreach material including high-quality presentations, publications, newsletters, blogs, photographs, videos, testimonials, webinars, social media, etc
• Coordinate and support the development of audience-specific knowledge products
• Maintain active communication with focal points in partner countries and organizations
• Ensure that the project website is updated
• Copyediting and review of key messaging and research documents and provide comms inputs to project & donor reports

Engagement (20%):

• Coordinate and help develop and implement the engagement strategy
• Schedule and participate in convenings to maintain existing network and establish new partnerships
• Coordinate and manage follow-up surveys and correspondence
• Maintain network contacts and engagement tracker spreadsheets
• Facilitate communication between partners and the public through dissemination of research and data, publications, media outreach, and digital communications

Media Relations (15%):

• Coordinate with mainstream media to display and amplify WRI Africa’s Energy Access for Equitable Development work
• Draft press releases and coordinate the release of media advisories to promote research
• Coordinate project media relations including identifying opportunities for media coverage, responding to media requests, and arranging interviews as appropriate
• Organize field visits for media and coordinate events coverage
• Maintain a list of media coverage and media contacts

Events (15%):

• Coordinate the production of webinars with relevant program teams
• Coordinate communication support for program events, including social promotion and coverage, photography, media outreach, production of communication products, and post-event communication reports
• Contribute to WRI Africa’s list of events to ensure effective and efficient coordination of communication support
• Manage media during events

Institutional Communications (10%):

• Contribute to WRI Africa’s communication initiatives such as compiling content for international days, blogs, the release of flagship reports, and newsletters.

What you will need:

• Education: You have completed a Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations, International Affairs, Political Science, Business Management, International Development, Environmental Sciences, or other social sciences
• Experience: You have 5+ years of relevant full time work experience, preferably with international development organizations, knowledge institutions, or media
• Excellent writing, editing, and oral communication skills
• Creative, detail-oriented, and highly organized individual with a strong interest in partnerships, coordination, and communications
• Ability to identify opportunities for communication activities
• Experience in storytelling and writing human-interest stories
• Experience in designing and organizing events
• High level of comfort with Microsoft Office 365 (proficiency with SharePoint, Excel, Power point), web-based communications, and internet research
• Languages: You will be proficient in written and spoken English, with any additional language is a plus
