To support the scale of these successful interventions and business models, WFP seeks a dedicated professional to support the Food Systems and Resilience team in Nairobi to create the evidence for designing new business cases and proposals, manage research partnerships, guide monitoring processes, prepare donor reports, manage unit communication and visibility, documenting and sharing best practices, and support in maintaining and establishing efficient business processes.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

• Ensure cross-learning and close interactions across FtMA project areas and the arid counties, where the FSC model is being scaled-up (including the documentation of success stories and best practices). 
• Support the technical units on key programmatic areas including but not limited to gender transformation and youth empowerment.
• Produce and review analyses, strategies, and papers for WFP’s climate resilience and food systems interventions.
• Generate analysis that investigates cost-benefit of different intervention packages, return of investments and related research question
• Create evidence generation and knowledge management strategy for the climate, food system and resilience portfolio   
• Coordinate monitoring and evaluation activities under Outcome 2 in close collaboration with the Monitoring & Evaluation Officer.
• Coordinate and draft the development of funding proposals and concept notes as required and support on ad-hoc donor engagements.
• Produce corporate reporting products and donor reports in close collaboration with technical units.
• Develop and maintain relevant partnerships with private sector, research institutions and Government of Kenya.
• Create content for communication for internal and external channels, working closely with WFP communications unit.
• Support the development of tools and processes to manage FSC performance and ensure intended smallholder impact is achieved.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience : At least five (5) years of experience in agribusiness, either in private sector enterprises or in non-profit value chain related projects, with exposure to the private sector segment and research institutions.
• Language: Fluency (oral and written) in English and Kiswahili necessary; proficiency in other languages spoken regionally in Kenya is an asset.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Preparing livestock technical information; providing technical advice in animal production, livestock marketing, range management, apiculture, and ranching;
• Promoting economic livestock farming; participating in organizing extension activities which include field days, agricultural shows, field demonstrations, farmer field schools and farm visits;
• Participating in collaborative research activities;

Duties and responsibilities

• Receiving and compiling Fisheries related statistical data from field officers,
• Analyzing fisheries data and preparing reports, assist in monitoring and surveillance of Fisheries resources,
• Undertaking fisheries extension services, maintaining of ponds at fish farms and hatcheries,
• Inspecting fish and fish handling facilities at fish landing sites, markets and farms,

Overview

To establish vegetable aggregation centers in several counties in liaison with the implementing partners in the Veggies 4 Planet & People (V4P&P) project, government partners, and private sector, and facilitate a sustainable and replicable aggregation center business model.

Duties and responsibilities

• Develop feasibility studies and business plans for the establishment and operation of pilot vegetable aggregation centers in 3 different counties in Kenya, based on the concept note that has been developed by V4P&P.
• Quantify project revenue streams based on sale of produce, logistics, business development services, storage, value addition, member fees, and other fees. Develop a cost structure for the aggregation centers.
• Liaise with the anticipated clients of the aggregation centers, such as vegetable producers, agro-input providers, service providers, transporters, traders, and buyers, derived from existing vegetable business networks (VBNs) in the project.
• In liaison with the project communication officer, media, other stakeholders, and field days, promote the values of the aggregation centers and its products among consumers and the wider community.
• Promote accountability, transparency, and good leadership.
• Monitor and document the operation of aggregation centers for the purpose of learning, sharing lessons with stakeholders, and reporting.
• Manage other activities: identification and acquisition of land, design of aggregation center, building of infrastructure, consultative meetings with stakeholders, set up a management committee for each center, capacity building of management committees.
• Identify and mitigate potential risks within your work area.

• Proven experience in liaising with public-, and private partners, and linking smallholder farmers to markets, particularly for perishable products.

Key Responsibilities

• Sensitize cooperative leadership, smallholder coffee farmers and local stakeholders on the Good Neighbors coffee project work. 
• Implement existing strategies to provide assigned cooperatives with agronomy training and with structured post-training farm visits to improve adoption. 
• Train and advise farmers being assisted by the project on coffee agronomy best practices with the objective of helping them to improve coffee yields and quality. 
• Train, mentor, coach and support assigned Farmer Trainers (TOTs) on all technical and operational aspects of their work and in relationship with farmers. This includes assisting them to set performance goals, continuous assessment of performance and giving feedback.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, agronomy, horticulture or related agricultural sciences. 
• At least three years’ professional experience – ideally in the private sector/NGO – in one or more of the following areas: coffee processing or agronomy; business or cooperative management; SME development; agriculture; training; extension services. 
• Demonstrated good understanding of the Kenya coffee industry and especially the cooperatives sector. 
• Possess an aptitude and skills for training adults in a field set up. 
• Strong planning skills and ability to generate innovative solutions in highly dynamic work situations.
