• The Marshall Weinberg Global Legal Fellowship Program will help prepare the next generation of social justice lawyers in reproductive health and rights with two-year fellowships within the Center’s Global Legal Program. These emerging advocates will work directly with our legal experts and will take on work in areas of the greatest need, opportunity, and impact within our Africa and Latin American and the Caribbean (LAC) programs.
• We are currently recruiting two Marshall Weinberg Global Legal Fellows for Africa. Candidates will be assigned to either Advocacy or Litigation and will work under the supervision of the Associate Director, Legal Strategies, or the Senior Technical Adviser respectively. Fellows will also work closely with other Africa program staff to support and build the work of the regional program in all areas of work.
• This is a two-year, full-time fellowship. This position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya in a hybrid model of 3 days in-office, 2 days working-from-home. Applicants must be legally permitted to work in Kenya.

Primary Responsibilities:
The Fellow for this role will be assigned to Litigation and Advocacy work, by:

• Conducting legal and policy research and analysis on international and regional human rights law, as well as comparative regional and national level law.
• Assisting in the development and drafting of fact sheets, briefing papers, articles, shadow letters, reports; presentations; and other advocacy documents positioning reproductive rights as fundamental human rights.
• Supporting the Africa program’s advocacy team in collaborative thought leadership initiatives to advance key reproductive rights issues regionally.
• Supporting the Africa program’s litigation efforts by assisting with research and drafting of legal petitions, amicus briefs and other legal memoranda.
• Representing the Center externally on matters related to reproductive rights through engagement with African regional human rights and political bodies and as required, engagement with the media.
• Supporting the Africa program’s engagement in collaborative advocacy efforts with other Center programs.
• Supporting provision of technical assistance to other teams at the Center, as well as to partner non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other stakeholders, including through supporting development and implementation of advocacy strategies.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in law is required.
• 2-3 years of relevant work experience with demonstrable knowledge of international/ African regional human rights/women’s rights and of reproductive rights or women’s health law, or other related fields.

The Role:

• This is a new role within the Center’s Program Division and will provide management and day-to-day implementation of monitoring, evaluation, & learning (ME&L) responsibilities for a new multi-million-dollar restricted grant funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC). The role will also contribute to gathering lessons learned from this grant to inform further institutional ME&L and grants management system and process improvements. The Program Manager will work in close collaboration with colleagues in the Africa and Latin America & Caribbean (LAC) regional programs, the Global Advocacy (GA) Department which leads engagement with the UN system, and the Strategy, Evaluation and Learning (SEAL) Department which is the technical department leading ME&L for the organization. This position will report to the Project Director (based in Nairobi), with a dotted line to the Associate Director, Monitoring, Evaluation, & Learning (based in New York).

The position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya in a hybrid model of 3 days in-office, 2 days working-from-home.
Primary Responsibilities:
Systems, Evidence & Data

• Lead the development and implementation of project specific ME&L processes, tools and templates that are aligned with project agreements, organizational ME&L standards, project management practices, and operational workflows.
• Provide technical support to project staff and external partners in preparing and implementing ME&L processes that meet a high standard of quality, accuracy and integrity.
• Lead in oversight, capacity gaps assessment and capacity building to ensure partners are able to collect, analyse and report quality and consistent data.
• Collaborates with colleagues in the Office of the General Counsel (OGC), Program Management Department (PMD), Development department, and partners (as appropriate) to ensure ME&L processes and reporting meet donor compliance requirements.

Implementation: Evaluation & Learning

• Manage internal requests for information/data generated from the ME&L system for the project, including reporting to the Board of Directors and Executive Team.
• Provide technical support to the Africa, LAC, and GA teams to prepare donor project narrative reporting, including analysis of realized results, challenges faced, and progress against set indicators for the project
• Contribute to implementing the Center’s ME&L system as a core component of strategy and learning, including integrating evaluation and learning processes from the project into program and project management for the Program Division and contributing GAC project results to broader impact reporting
• Participate in cross-organizational efforts to identify valuable learning opportunities for use in external relations work.
• Support selection and supervision of external consultants for project evaluation assignments, including developing terms of reference, liaising with colleagues, and providing inputs as needed.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., social science, public health, human rights) with a preference for postgraduate education or professional certification in ME&L or project management.
• Minimum of 8 years’ cumulative experience in relevant fields, preferably in global organizations with project management and ME&L system design and implementation.
• Experience in designing and implementing ME&L systems including data analysis, synthesis and reporting.
• Demonstrated ability in managing MEL for projects relying on institutional funding grants and working in cross-regional teams. Experience managing ME&L for projects funded by GAC is a significant advantage.
• Strong skills in data analysis, synthesis, quality assurance, and familiarity with data analysis and visualization software.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team leadership skills.
• Fluency in English; proficiency in Spanish is an asset.

The Role:

• The Compliance Manager is an integral member of the Center’s recently expanded Office of the General Counsel (OGC). Reporting to the Director of Compliance, the Compliance Manager will help ensure that the Center fulfills its legal obligations, including those required by the organization’s funders, and adheres to industry best practices.
• As part of this role, the Compliance Manager will help identify, create and enhance Center policies, systems, and processes to ensure compliance with legal and grant requirements. The Compliance Manager will provide strategic input and operational support to Center staff throughout the proposal/award lifecycle. The Compliance Manager will assist in the development and rolling out of compliance trainings to build staff and partner capacity, with the goal of mitigating risk and maintaining compliance with donor requirements.

The Compliance Manager will be based in Nairobi, Kenya. The Center currently operates in a hybrid model, allowing staff to work 3 days in the office and 2 days from home.
Primary Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the Office of the General Counsel in the development and/or enhancement of Center policies, processes, and procedures to ensure compliance with legal and award requirements.
• Review Donor and Partner funded solicitations and award terms and conditions and provide guidance on mandatory requirements and/or potential risks, including those posed by partners.
• Participate in planning, designing, and executing periodic internal compliance audits and assist in response to external audits, including as related to Donor funded projects. Draft audit reports and proposed corrective action plans. Conduct follow-up of action plans and recommendations.
• Participate in award kick-off meetings to ensure that donor requirements are well understood and that plans are in place to meet the requirements.
• Help create and maintain a dashboard and tools to facilitate grants management compliance.
• Review Center Partnership and Donor Funded Procurement Actions as necessary.
• Assist in correspondence to donors, partners, and auditors.
• Provide donor compliance and risk management guidance to staff and partners throughout project implementation.
• Develop and conduct trainings to support the Center’s compliance programs and build staff and partner capacity.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in finance, business administration, commerce, law, or related field is required.
• Eight years of progressively responsible professional work experience in a similar position at an International Organization, Non-Governmental Organization, Donor Agency, or Embassy. Experience working with restricted donors, specifically, DFID, SIDA, UN Agencies, EU-based donors, foundations, and Global Affairs Canada is a plus.
• Experience with grants and partnership management, donor compliance, budgeting, and financial reporting.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively with diverse groups of stakeholders, both internal and external.
• Excellent communication, report writing, and presentation skills.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to anticipate issues and address issues proactively.

The Role:

•  This is a new role within the Center’s Program Division, this role will provide leadership and managerial and technical direction for a new multi-million-dollar restricted grant funded by Global Affairs Canada. The role will also provide leadership in identifying lessons from this grant to inform further institutional grants management system and process improvements. The grant aims to improve access to Sexual Reproduction Health Rights (SRHR) of women and adolescents in Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Colombia, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Guatemala, by building the requisite political and legal support at national, regional and global levels.

About the project: 

• The project will implement legal advocacy strategies in the 13 countries and at the UN tailored to the specific systemic challenges and prevalent SRHR violations faced by women and adolescents in each context, while also drawing lessons learned to inform strategies across countries and via global processes. The project will also expand on the Center's existing work with national level partners to build capacities of national legal entities and organizations. The project will build norms and standards with Africa regional and sub-regional bodies, as well a regional body in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). Finally, protecting and advancing SRHR in global processes (e.g. UN General Assembly, Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), Commission on Population and Development (CPD), Human Rights Council, Treaty Monitoring Bodies (TMBs), and Special Procedures and Universal Periodic Review) form a crucial component of maintaining a circle of accountability prioritized by the project. As such the project crosses three Center departments. These are the Africa region, the LAC region, and Global Advocacy (GA).

About the role: 

• The Project Director will guide an assigned project team to assure strategies and activities are responsive to the stated priorities of the Center’s grant agreement with GAC, as well as in line with the Center’s Africa, LAC, and GA departmental strategies. The Project Director will play a significant technical role in developing, monitoring, and overseeing the project, including ensuring synergies between Africa, LAC and GA implementation plans are maximized wherever possible. The Project Director will oversee the project budget, monitoring and evaluation plan, and the project risk and mitigation plan, with support from the Center’s program development, finance, and compliance teams. The Project Director will serve as the Center’s main liaison with GAC as it relates to this grant and it accountable for the successful management and delivery of the grant.
• This position will report to the Vice President of the Africa Region (based in Nairobi), with a dotted line to the Vice President of the LAC region (based in Bogota), and the Vice President GA (based in New York). The Project Director will line manage a Project Associate. A new position that is also currently under recruitment. Other staff assigned to the project will continue to directly report into existing Africa, LAC and GA departments.
• The position can be based in Nairobi where our Africa office is established in a hybrid model of 3 days working in office, 2 days working from home. Candidates able to work in one of our other global offices in New York City and Bogota will also be considered.

Primary Responsibilities:

Leadership:

• Lead the implementation of the project.
• Ensure the project plan can meet the ambitious outcomes expected by GAC, for example by identifying and addressing the gaps in existing Center Africa and LAC regional and GA existing implementation plans and providing direction for filling these gaps.
• Oversee project planning, paying close attention to the need to both deliver according to the plan and to learn and adjust the plans according to new opportunities and threats arising in the SRHR legal and advocacy landscape in the countries and spaces where the project will be implemented.
• Provide leadership to ensure alignment of the project with Africa, LAC and GA strategies as well as the overall Center global strategy.
• Manage the performance of the project team in line with the Center’s Human Resources policy, work plan and organizational values.

Grant Management:

• Provide overall project management for all project-related activities and oversee inputs of assigned staff to the project.
• Work with the Center’s Compliance Director to develop and implement and project risk and mitigation strategy, as well as plan to train staff and oversee grant compliance provisions assigned in the Center’s prime agreement with GAC.
• Work with the Center’s finance team to develop and implement appropriate project financial monitoring and compliance procedures.
• Ensure the flow of funds to partner organization comply with the Center’s onward granting procedures, and support project team to find efficiencies and good practice related to these partnership procedures in accordance with the Center’s partnership principles.
• Support the recruit and onboarding of project staff, as needed.
• Engage and manage external consultants as needed.
• Ensure proper reporting and accountability to internal and external audience, including
• Support new fundraising efforts related to project outcomes and activities.

Technical Oversight:

• Lead the conceptualization and implementation of project activities.

• Support the team to ensure a feminist, human rights and broader SRHR movement intersectional approach across project activities.

• Serve as a strategic advisor and thought partner to the VPs of Africa, LAC and GA on project implementation.

Representation:

• Steward the relationship with the GAC project officer responsible for the project, working closely with the Center’s GA and development teams to align this relationship with our wider relationship with the Canadian government.
• Represent the Center in other external meetings as agreed.

Qualifications:

• Over 15 years’ experience with significant experience in roles that focus or include project and grant management, MEL and leadership, preferably in an international NGO.
• A master’s degree in management, public health, development studies, law, or any other relevant field.
• Experience working on human/women’s rights and/or in the social justice sector in Africa, Latin America or at the global level with demonstrable experience leading implementation of large, restricted grants.
• Experience overseeing government grants ,particularly GAC grants, is a plus.
• Expertise in setting up systems for effective accountability, monitoring and reporting across teams and regions.
• Experience adapting context specific analysis, strategy, policies, and procedures to suit different audiences.
• Proven ability to manage projects workflow, including facilitating project scope, identifying goals and deliverables, planning and scheduling project timelines, and monitoring project progress.
• Experience managing across regions, remote staff and a range of priorities.
• Ability to influence, lead and collaborate with those that may not have a direct reporting relationship.
• Experience in providing non-profits technical assistance.
• Fluency in English a must (Spanish a plus)

The Role:

• Reporting to the Associate Director, Global Operations, Africa the incumbent will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting and financial service support for the Nairobi Office and Africa Region Operations. The incumbent will primarily work within the Nairobi office operations team and will be expected to collaborate with the finance team in the US.
• This role will be based in the Nairobi, Kenya office in a hybrid model of 3 days working in-office, 2 days working from home.

Primary Responsibilities:
Finance Management and Operations

• Ensure the implementation of Centre for Reproductive Right’s internal controls, finance policies, systems and procedures conform to the minimum and mandatory financial standards.
• Support the Nairobi office annual budget preparation and reprojection process
• Support the office operations team to track and monitor spending related to the Center’s office budget, reviewing budgeted to actual expenditures monthly to ensure that spending is in line with budget allocations.
• Advise management in financial decision-making and systems development and improvement.
• Serve as the primary liaison with the local accounting firm.

Expense and Payment Management

• Undertake and monitor all payments, including to partner organizations, and ensure smooth, timely issuing of payments and that all financial transactions in the region including of projects, are in line and comply with Centre for Reproductive Right’s policies and within the regional authorization limits.
• Review project award and sub-award documents in relation to payments as needed.
• Manage the employee expense reports review process.
• Support payment of invoices and bills from suppliers and service providers including payroll and related statutory payments when required to.
• Post all payments according to the right codes in the center’s finance system.

Accounting and Banking

• Ensure the accuracy of the organizational accounting records and maintain the chart of accounts.
• Banking and managing the Center’s bank accounts with the support from AD Global Operations
• On a monthly basis, providing the bank with documentation in support of incoming transfers and inter account transfer for foreign currency in compliance with Central Bank of Kenya Requirements
• Ensure month-end closings and bank reconciliations and update the computerized accounting software.

Payroll Management

• Overseeing and directing payroll procedures, ensuring payroll is completed in an accurate and timely manner, compliance with laws and tax obligations and maintaining accurate payroll records.
• Review payroll policies and amend procedures when required and monitor the accurate processing of staff appointments, transfers, promotions, and terminations in collaboration with HR.

Finance Reporting and Compliance

• Manage and meet all financial reporting deadlines required by local agencies, including working with the outsourced payroll provider to ensure returns to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA); National Social Security Fund, National Hospital Insurance Fund are accurate, and submissions done and entered in Centre for Reproductive Rights books/records.
• Overall assistance with adherence to local statutory compliance requirements, including vendor tax withholdings, including monthly and annual financial statements and annual tax filings, etc.
• Support completion of the annual audit and tax returns.
• Update documents in the Organization document management platform-SharePoint
• Provide financial analyses, reports, and forecasts to management.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration is required.
• Professional qualification in accounting, CPA(K), ACCA or equivalent is desired.
• A minimum of eight years of professional experience in accounting and budgeting with experience working at an International Organization, Non-Governmental Organization, Donor Agency, or Embassy is required.
• Thorough knowledge of professional accounting principles, theory, practices, and terminology regarding accounting and experience developing, managing, and analyzing large and complex operating budgets.
• Extensive experience working with computerized accounting systems, including familiarity with use of scalable Enterprise Resource (ERPs) and other e-based communication channels and tools.
• High judgment is required in the interpretation and application of appropriate regulations to a wide variety of situations and the incumbent must also be aware of the types of situations and problems which they must refer to their supervisor.

• Working closely with the Associate Director-Program Business Development and Innovation (PMD) as well as the Development Department, oversee programs resources development (fundraising and pipelines) including research (including on funding opportunities, comparative systems/approaches), agreeing to funding thresholds, new compliance and accountability policies or standards and supporting regions to meet these standards or policies through, among others, capacity development support, internal reviews and feedback processes.
• Working closely with the Senior Programs Budget Manager (PMD) and other relevant staff/teams within and outside the Programs Division, ensure internal and external compliance and accountability for the Programs Division including functional and clear systems, tools and timelines and decision-making structures for program financial fiduciary management, reporting and compliance (such as Center/donor compliance and lobbying compliance).
• In close coordination with the Development Team and respective Program Departments, support the Program Division’s quality donor engagement and reporting including by systematizing, supporting, and coordinating quality narrative reporting to donors and other development partners, ensuring clear documentation of results for strategic communication to donors and other strategic partners.

Global Programs operations Strategy development and implementation oversight:

• Lead in the design, definition, and implementation of the inaugural CRR programs operations and administrations strategy, standards, protocols, and tactical plans across the Programs Division and within the Center, including ensuring functional communication, workflows, timelines, responsibilities, and decision authority.
• Provide guidance and quality assurance to all program departments in developing and implementing annual plans in support of the Center’s strategic objectives and priorities.
• Manage Programs financial fiduciary processes for both internal and external processes within the Programs Division (including iterative prioritization, and regular planning, budgeting, reprojections and program financial risk management).
• Support the Deputy Director-Program Division in ensuring a functional and cohesive Program Management Department (PMD) team working under a clear structure and guided by workplans aligned to the Center’s strategies and document the PMD’s results/progress against targets including through effective supervision of all assigned PMD staff.
• Coordinating with the Office of Strategy and Operations in ensuring human resource capacity, optimization and safety and security across the Programs Division.

Program Integration and Impact Reporting

• Oversee the Program Division’s translation of the technical results from all programs work into impactful case studies/stories for internal program reporting, including to the Executive Team and the Board, including ensuring appropriate and timely internal program reporting.
• Support efforts to ensure alignment between the Regions and the Center’s Strategy and support the integration of the Center’s programmatic strategies, systems, processes, and tactical plans to maximize impact.

Any other roles as may be assigned including in cross-organizational or cross-functional initiatives under the Global Operating Model (GOM) critical to the Programs Division.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in relevant social sciences including law, public health, Management, or a related field required. Post-graduate qualifications such as master’s degree in relevant disciplines relating to law, international human rights, SRHR, international development and/or program management will be a significant advantage.
• 12-15 years of professional experience, with a significant part being in program portfolio management for international non-profit organizations, particularly in the SRHR or the broader human rights sector.
• Demonstrated experience in program and project management, donor relations, report writing, strategy development and program risk management including highly developed experience in designing and managing complex programs.
• Demonstrated experience in program/project planning, budgeting, and reporting.
• Experience in organizational development and/or system/process improvement.
• Excellent writing and verbal communications skills including ability to present issues clearly, concisely and logically and communicate information, however complex, to non-experts.
• Professional language proficiency in English. Proficiency in Spanish and/or French would be an added advantage;
• Experience effectively managing and/or collaborating across teams working in different geographies in a global organization.
• Excellent IT skills.

The Role: The Project Manager of Technology Business Services plans, organizes, manages, and tracks projects and operations for software systems including, but not limited to Finance, HR, Payroll, CRM, grant management and business intelligence. The Project Manager supports the management of systems and data interfaces for internal and external systems. The Project Manager manages project staff including internal resources and external professional services.  

The Project Manager also translates business needs into technology solutions, builds trusted partnerships with Center users to maximize the value of systems and corresponding information assets. This individual will collaborate directly with key stakeholders and decision makers across all departments to develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization. The Project Manager supports the Global Operations and Technology Unit and the Technology Business Services team to drive change across operations as needed to ensure data and systems integrity.  

 

The position will be based in Nairobi in a hybrid work model.

Primary Responsibilities: 

Project Management 

• Oversees the development, implementation, and execution of multiple projects through all phases of project lifecycle.
• Coordinates with internal project stakeholders and external vendors to define timeline, budget, schedules, scope while controlling scope and budget creep. 
• Defines project goals and objectives, and then oversees development, tracking, and monitoring of project plans, reporting out to project leadership.
• Spearheads business analysis functions throughout the project lifecycle including defining business requirements, business process development and/or re-design, and testing functions
• Delivers defined, approved projects on-time, on budget and within scope.
• Steers projects and initiatives around potential resources and other conflicts.
• Defines and implements the communication approach for projects risks and issues.
• Manages the project team, including internal and external resources.
• Drives technology and services evaluation process to determine value-add to the organization. 

Change Management 

• Directs and creates capability building and systems training for end-users. 
• Collaborates with the Technology Support Services for end-user support plans. 
• Provides training on systems. 
• Acts as the point of contact for third party vendor professional services.  

Technology Collaboration  

• Collaborates with the business stakeholders to identify projects to meet business goals and priorities, and continually improve the organization  
• Develops and maintains strong relationships with stakeholders that promote trust and increase efficiency and effectiveness.  
• Works closely with stakeholders to ensure systems and data integrity.

Qualifications:

• 6 or more years of experience in technology or business and industry. 
• 4 or more years leading and managing complex, enterprise-wide technology implementation projects.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Information Science, Business Management or a related field required.
• Solid understanding of current and emerging infrastructure & operations technologies and practices, and how other enterprises are employing them.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver technology solutions that are aligned to business needs.
• Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, oral and written communication skills, and ability to direct simultaneously multiple priorities. 
• Strong understanding of software development lifecycle and principles of application and data architecture. 
• Experience in a global, multicultural environment with multiple stakeholders and priorities.
