CFAO Motors Kenya limited (Formerly Toyota Kenya Limited) is the distributor of Toyota, Suzuki, HINO and Yamaha brands in Kenya. Our company is a subsidiary of CFAO Group which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Toyota Tsusho Corporation.

We are seeking to recruit a qualified, passionate and self-driven candidate to fill the vacant position of General Manager, Engineering reporting to Chief Operating Officer and based at our Head Office, in Nairobi.

The purpose of the role of General Manager, Engineering exists to provide leadership in the development and implementation of the CFAO Motors Kenya Engineering strategy, policies and procedures, in support of the overall business objectives

The ideal candidate should have knowledge of Global Automotive industry awareness, CFAO Motors Kenya retail concept, CFAO facility guidelines and knowledge of CFAO Motors business units and budgeting knowledge.

Main responsibilities for the role include;

Managerial/Supervisory Responsibilities

  1. Provide strategic direction for CFAO Kenya Motors Engineering division to ensure the achievement of the company’s strategy.
  2. Provide leadership in the formulation and implementation of CFAO Kenya Motors strategy for both mid-term and long-term strategic plans in line with the Company vision
  3. Coordinate the collaboration between Engineering and other business division to maximise on synergies and achieve market leadership.
  4. Oversee prudent financial management; adequate budgetary allocations; establishment of strict approvals and adherence to approved budgetary allocations
  5. Develop new products localization strategies, innovation of new products for business growth, assessment of local content and component suppliers, monitoring quality of body building and accessories.
  6. Local assembly (KD projects) involvement and quality of the same for all brands at the local assembly plant(s).
  7. Provide leadership in engineering quality assurance including third party contractors.

Operational Responsibilities

  1. Oversee the activities of the departments within Engineering to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in operations in support of the business growth.
  2. Provide overall supervision of the quality of service to CFAO Motors Kenya ustomers to ensure compliance with the CFAO Motors Kenya and Toyota Tsusho Corporation quality standards
  3. Coordinate the provision of accurate feedback to Toyota Tsusho Corporation on technical improvements required on the CFAO Motors Kenya products for product development
  4. Coordinate risk assessments on policies, processes and procedures in order to mitigate risks
  5. Collaborate with the Human Resource department to promote employee satisfaction and provision of technical training to ensure the availability of the technical competencies required in the delivery of quality and timely services to CFAO Motors Kenya customers
  6. Proactively assess all product related matters required for optimal operational performance, including contribution to vehicle and component production and sourcing of agreed parts in Kenya
  7. Ensure proper representation of CFAO Motors Kenya to the KEBS relevant technical committees
  8. Represent CFAO Motors Kenya in the East African network of Automotive producers & associations and keep abreast with all trends and developments in the Automotive industry in the region.
  9. Proactively assess all legal matters including licensing and maintaining healthy relationships with legal and Automotive Associations in Kenya, EAC etc.
  10. Ensure adherence and compliance to general automotive industry production standards and best practices

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Minimum level of academic and professional qualification required to perform effectively in the role

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or in a related field from a recognized University
  2. Master’s degree in business administration
  3. Postgraduate Diploma in Automotive engineering, Project management or Quality management will be an added advantage.

Minimum level of experience required to perform effectively in the role

12 years of relevant working experience, with 5 years in senior management in an organization of similar size and complexity.
