The Project Manager will oversee the Global Environment Facility (GEF) funded Enduring Earth Project which aims to accelerate sustainable finance solutions to achieve durable conservation. The GEF Enduring Earth Project will catalyze Project Finance for Permanence (PFP) initiatives in Gabon and Namibia, and help to design a multi-country, durable finance mechanism in the Eastern Tropical Pacific (Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Panama) to advance the achievement of goals set under the Global Biodiversity Framework and other development objectives. Implementation of the project will be done with TNC as the lead executing agency working through the Enduring Earth partnership with three different partners managing national-level implementation in each geography.  The Project Manager will take the lead in project management of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) funded Enduring Earth Project award.

The Project Manager is responsible for overall award management and successful implementation including: program management, performance monitoring, and technical implementation and oversight – ensuring the project achieves intended results and that activities are delivered on time and in budget. They will have a deep understanding of GEF program requirements, from hands-on financial and agreement management and work plan development to performance monitoring and knowledge management. 

The GEF Project Manager will be a member of the PFP team within TNC’s Global Protect Oceans, Lands, and Waters business unit. They will report into the Program Manager, PFP and have one direct report supporting Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning for the GEF project.

• The Project Manager will serve as a key TNC informational contact for the GEF Enduring Earth Project and will be the principal institutional liaison to WWF (as the GEF-accredited agency) regarding the project, maintaining regular communication with their representatives. They will ensure that the TNC-led project team coordinates activities with other Enduring Earth efforts that have complementarity with the project as well as the wider Enduring Earth initiative. This will be a key role leading the establishment of our team’s GEF grant management systems and functioning as a technical expert in this area.  
• Responsibilities of the Project Manager include but are not limited to: development, oversight and monitoring of project work plans and budget execution; report writing, supporting project field visits and evaluations; capacity building of the broader GEF project team and project execution partners; collaboration with project Steering Committees; adherence to WWF, GEF and TNC policies and standards; promoting knowledge management and sharing and validation of theory of change and results framework for use in adaptive management.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

The Kenya Conservation Director oversees all conservation program aspects of the Kenya program in terrestrial, freshwater and marine ecosystems, providing technical, scientific and programmatic leadership to successfully execute the Kenya Strategic Plan. They provide strategic leadership and support for TNC’s conservation planning work and establish overall conservation priorities for Kenya program initiatives. The Kenya Conservation Director serves as the principle contact to conservation organizations, foundations, and the academic community within their area of responsibility. They will engage with key stakeholders to amplify conservation developments in Kenya come up with innovative solutions to improve conservation efforts in line with TNCs 2030 Goals and the Kenya Strategic Plan. They disseminate best practices, oversee trainings and analysis to best implement organizational measures of success.  They will work closely with the Africa regional IPLC, terrestrial, freshwater, marine and climate strategies as well as with the regional fundraising team to ensure that all programs are well coordinated.

This position will report to the Kenya Country Program Director, supervise a team and work closely with the TNC Kenya and regional conservation teams. The position will be based in Kenya and will involve regular travel to the field. • Facilitate stakeholder engagement and provide technical support to the TNC staff and partners in Kenya in the identification and strengthening of linkages and collaborations between organizations working on community based natural resource management, community development, species protection and wildlife security.
• Support fundraising efforts for Kenya conservation priorities. 
• Identify and design how to effectively leverage partnerships and  build their capacity to develop and implement risk management protocols to reduce and mitigate risk and improve quality controls of projects. 
• Support efforts to strengthen community land rights and land use planning in community conservancies.
• Be accountable for tracking progress, reporting to donors and stakeholders on progress and impact of integrated landscape initiatives – terrestrial, freshwater and oceans.
• Leverage the relationships between community and private conservation efforts by building strategic scientific and technical capacity amongst conservation partners to build landscape connectivity. 
• Improve quality controls and coordination of interventions across the different strategic programs touching down in northern Kenya, including but not limited to, rangelands (including carbon projects), holistic grazing, source water management and regenerative agriculture.

• The Project Coordinator supports the TNC Kenya PFP project and will provide support to advance the detailed planning, management, and execution of the project. The coordinator provides day-to-day support to the Project leads and the PFP Director.
• They support key coordinating functions that help staff and stakeholders work in an efficient and effective way, such as tracking project status in project management software and reporting as required in consultation with the Project Director, maintaining a shared Box folder, tracking meeting commitments and minutes, and following up with partners to ensure work is proceeding as planned. • The Africa Climate and Forest Protection Strategy Coordinator provides administrative, research, project management and other general assistance to program staff working toward achieving protection, conservation, or stewardship goals. The coordinator may manage conservation data, participate in conservation planning, develop project packages, and maintain project records.
• Reporting to the Africa Forest Carbon Catalyst (AFCC) Manager, the Africa Climate and Forest Protection Strategy Coordinator supports the overall strategy coordination and other programs such as the AFCC and Congo Basin. They provide administrative, research, project management and other general assistance to program staff working toward the achievement of protection, conservation, and stewardship goals. The Africa Climate and Forest Protection Strategy Coordinator will manage conservation data, participate in conservation planning, develop project packages, and maintain project records. • Supervise and coach CHEF staff and consultants and oversee/ensure integration of all the technical work.
• Serve as primary contact for the program, ensuring strong TNC internal coordination with other relevant programs and offices.
• Apply design thinking to CHEF strategic planning and obtain any required approvals at key decision points.
• Provide financial management oversight, analyze budgets, and provide updates to the BU on budget expenditures.
• Establish the required connections with key stakeholders and lead the development of key partnerships.
• Lead the fundraising efforts and seek opportunities to leverage funding from other programs implemented in the region.

• Master’s degree in a relevant discipline such as agribusiness, business management, economics, international development, and 10 years of experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong experience in partnership management/development with major scientific organisations, non-profit partners, community groups and government agencies and proven track record in influencing and working productively with these stakeholders.
• Strong English language communications skills, including ability to communicating clearly via written, oral, and graphical forms, and ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
• Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
• Experience developing practical applications of scientific concepts and technical innovations for conservation purposes.

• Drive Executives’ brand influence through innovative strategies tied to external, high-profile events, their digital footprint, and internal platforms in ways that impact and affects the public image

What You'll Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in communication or a related field and a minimum of 7 years of related experience or equivalent combination
• Experience writing, editing, and proofreading messages for targeted audiences.
• Experience in developing internal communications, media, and engagement strategies, and measuring results
• Experience working with current Marketing and Communications trends, and practices and conceiving and implementing strategic, and creative initiatives including crisis communications
• Experience presenting to diverse audiences including some or all the following: internal and external executives, donors, members, board members, and the public or equivalent.
